Short version: induction wins on compliance and safety, gas wins on blackouts and sustained high-heat stir-frying, and on running cost they are close enough that you should run the numbers rather than assume.

  • Compliance. Many new condos allow electric only. This single factor often settles the question.
  • Thermal efficiency. Induction puts energy directly into the pan base, typically delivering well over eighty percent of it to the food. A gas flame loses a great deal of heat around the sides of the pan; the share that reaches the food is commonly around forty percent. This is why induction stays competitive despite expensive electricity.
  • Speed. Induction boils water faster. But peak power is capped by the circuit — many single hobs sit in the 1,800–2,200 W range — so a powerful gas burner still holds temperature better under a heavy wok.

  • Convert the cylinder to energy. LPG carries roughly 46 megajoules per kilogram, which works out to about 12.8 kWh per kilogram. An 11 kg tank therefore holds about 141 kWh of raw energy.
  • Apply real efficiencies. At roughly forty percent, a gas hob delivers about 56 kWh of useful heat from that tank. To deliver the same useful heat, induction at roughly eighty-five percent needs about 66 kWh of electricity.
  • Price it with your own bill. Divide your total Meralco bill by the kilowatt-hours consumed to get your true all-in rate (this captures the generation, transmission and other pass-through charges), then multiply by 66.
  • Compare that figure against what you actually pay to swap one tank. Depending on the month's fuel and power prices, either side can come out ahead.

Two variables can flip the answer.
