Do the Itinerary and Hotel Booking Have to Be Real: Two Gates, Two Different Standards

At filing, your passport details, travel dates, length of stay, accommodation and purpose are read together. Nothing there is assessing how expensive your booking was; it is assessing whether the papers describe the same trip. Most requests for correction cluster here. At arrival, the officer asks where you are staying, how long, why you are here and when you leave — and compares your answers with your documents. Say Makati while holding a booking somewhere else and you have created a problem. What you need is an arrangement you can explain and produce, not a good-looking piece of paper.

One note on days: the stay you declare has to match your bracket — 30 days for list nationals, extendable by a 29-day waiver to 59, while the 14-day arrangement for Chinese ordinary passports cannot be extended at all, and a 9(a) follows the period stated on the visa. The departure date must sit inside that.

Hotel bookings without self-inflicted problems

Three habits. The name on the booking must match the passport exactly — spelling, order, middle names. The dates should cover the stay you have declared; booking only the first two nights and leaving the rest open invites questions, and if you genuinely plan to stay with friends later, document that instead of leaving a gap. And a free-cancellation booking is there for changed plans, not for cancelling the moment you have filed; filing something you already intend to cancel changes its nature entirely. If you are staying with family or friends, a document stating the address and the relationship stands up better than a hotel booking assembled for the file.

Flights and itineraries

The point is not the price but whether you have a departure arrangement you can produce; onward or return travel is a routine question at inspection. Three rules: the departure date should fall within the stay you will be granted — saying two weeks while holding a ticket two months out is expensive to explain; the name on the itinerary must match the passport; and if your plans are genuinely loose, explain why they are arranged the way they are rather than manufacturing an elaborate schedule. Remember the arrival registration as well — the official system charges nothing — and keep what you enter there consistent with everything else.

Two red lines and a five-point check

Do not fabricate documents, and do not file a booking you already intend to cancel; neither is a clever workaround, and neither can be explained when compared. Any service offering to "take care of the paperwork" should be checked for what it actually is before money changes hands. Before you fly: names match across passport, booking, ticket and registration; dates agree with the stay you declared; you can say where you are staying and produce the document; you can state your purpose in one sentence consistent with the file; and every document is on your phone and opens offline.
